Rotarians are helping during the COVID-19 crisis!
Ken Donoughue continues to help feed needy children and the front lines during the COVID-19 pandemic in connection with the Pleasanton Rotary Club.  Monday he fed 81 families at his site and he sees the number of children being fed decreasing.  They are servicing seven sites altogether.
Brenda Jackson is serving the community during the COVID-19 outbreak through her nursing profession and is unable to attend regular meetings. We commend you Brenda with the work that you are doing to support the community!
If anyone else from our club is assisting the community in any way during the COVID-19 crisis please let me know.  We would like to recognize your service in the community.
Prayer and Pledge
President Rick Tarbell opened the meeting and led us with a word of prayer and the pledges.

Dear Friends, as we are starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel, the medical community is now weighing in on the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) package passed last month. Yes, it has only been a month ago and I bring you their recommendations.

Allergists were in favor of scratching it, but Dermatologists advised not to make any rash moves.

Gastroenterologists had sort of a gut feeling about it, but Neurologists thought the Administration had a lot of nerve.

Meanwhile, Obstetricians felt certain everyone was laboring under a misconception, while Ophthalmologists considered the idea shortsighted.

Pathologists yelled, “Over my dead body!” while Pediatricians said, “Oh, grow up!”

President Elect John Legris introduced our guest speaker today, Pat Whitty, who calls himself a Modern Elder Whisperer. The “whisperer” phrase was made popular by the Horse Whisperer who is a person who has a unique understanding of the emotional and psychological needs of horses. Through his own study of health, aging, and his own transition to a Modern Elder, Pat has a unique understanding of the emotional and psychological needs of elders. Pat's topic today is Lifelong Transformation, One Healthy Habit at at Time. Pat shared his story of how he transformed his health and his life at age 77 and share the lessons he’s learned on that journey. He gave us many personal stories from his life and how he regained his health and renewed energy.  He compared youth and aging and how we can regain the joy in our lives through healthy living.  He stressed the need for healthy sleep and good eating habits that will help restore vitality in our lives and help us enjoy life again.
Pat offered to shared his ebook - just send him an email at: pwhitty@mac.com
Pat is President Elect of the Dominion Rotary Club. Follow him on linkedin: https://www.linkedin.com/in/patwhitty/ and facebook:  https://www.facebook.com/pat.whitty

Thanks Pat for spending some time with us and for speaking to our club!  Please join us "in person" when we start meeting again at Outback Steakhouse!
Speaker Next Week
Karen Ryan from A Ransomed Life and will speak about human trafficking.
Umbrella Time
Mary Denton owns the umbrella this month.  She says that here in San Antonio we have an abundance of qualified buyers and a severe shortage of homes for sale. "The housing market's great in San Antonio."  She heard Mark Dotzur speak recently, former chief economist from Texas A&M University who said that it's not people in Washington who drive home prices but it's supply and demand. Mary's winning bid goes towards her Paul Harris Fellowship.
Fun Facts from Wine History
President Elect John Legris continues with fun facts from wine history.  In 200 CE The Romans began to use the screw press to crush grapes to make wine. In 1630 began the manufacture of glass wine bottles. In 1851 a Chilean industrialist imported cuttings from French vines to grow in his own country.  John says he likes Chilean and Argentinian wines. He and his lovely wife Chihiro are enjoying Robert Mondavi Cabernet Sauvignon 2018. We're considering moving happy hour to John's home!
No Show Low Drawing Today
We anxiously await the Show Low drawing as soon as our club is able to meet at the Outback Steakhouse!
President Rick Tarbell announced that Oak Hills Rotary Club Board meets tomorrow.  Any regular member is welcome to attend the meeting.  The meeting ID is the same as for our regular meetings.
Past President Fred Timmons updated on our scholarship applicants.  We now have five scholarship applicants. Interviews will be next week through zoom.
Ken Ruiz says his previous club in Weston Florida is having a hard time selling raffle tickets for their scholarship fund.  He thanked Rick Rhodes, Derek Matthys and Past President Fred Timmons for purchasing tickets. Some of the Weston Rotary Club purchased tickets from us for our Gold Raffle. If anyone is interested in purchasing tickets to help please contact Ken Ruiz.
Missing Pins or Badges
We've all been kind of relaxed about wearing our pins during our zoom meetings so we will all be paying our dues when we meet togeter again...
We were sad to hear that Gloria Richter lost her battle with health issues. She passed away Friday May 22 at home. Our thoughts are with you, Bruce, and your family during this time. This bulletin was not published before this announcement and our Secretary wanted the membership to be aware of our great loss.
President Rick Tarbell closed the meeting by leading us with the Four Way Test.  He challenged us by asking, "Who have you invited to Rotary?"
