Gold Raffle Drawing Update
We're doing great! President Fred reported that $3,000 has been collected so far.  Keep up the good work everyone!

On this Day in History Fred Timmons shared:
  • In 1985 an earthquake in Mexico City killed 10,000 and injured 30,000.

National Days Fred continues Allyson's tradition of keeping us current with
  • National Cheeseburger Day
  • National Butterscotch Pudding Day
  • National Talk Like Pirate Day "Arrrrr!"

Humor President Fred Timmons found things that may make us wonder how we lived this long without knowing this stuff?

  • The dot over the letter "i" is called a tittle.
  • A duck's quack doesn't echo. No one knows why.
  • A 2"x4" stud is really 1-1/2" x 3-1/2"
  • During the chariot scene in 'Ben Hur," a small red car can be seen in the distance (and Heston's wearing a watch).
  • On average, 12 newborns will be given to the wrong parents daily! (That explains a few mysteries...)
  • Donald Duck comics were banned from Finland because he doesn't wear pants.
  • There are no words in the dictionary that rhyme with orange, purple and silver.
  • Bruce Lee was so fast that they actually had to s-l-o-w film down so you could see his moves.

Welcome Guests! Our guests this week were John Curran, a former Oak Hills Rotary member. Also returning was our regular visitor, Dave Jower of the NW Rotary Club.

Bruce did not have anything to share with us from the Rotarian this week but he encourages all of us to read it and learn what Rotarians around the globe are doing to help others. Read the current or past issues of the Rotarian by clicking the button below!
Club Lunch and Business Program
Our speaker today was Col. Russ Renaud of the Commemorative Air Force. This organization began with a small group of ex-service pilots from the Rio Grande Valley who pooled their money to purchase a P-51 Mustang. They formed a loosely defined organization to share the pleasure and expense of maintaining the Mustang. It was later found that most of the proud warriors, the historic aircraft that change the world forever, were scrapped or abandoned. Charted as a non-profit Texas corporation in 1961, the CAF vowed to restore and fly World War II era aircraft. What began as a hobby became an urgent mission to preserve history.  Today, the CAF has 12,000 members and maintains a fleet of more than 160 airplanes-representing 60 different types-including aircraft from several foreign countries and other military conflicts since World War II. He shared with us information about the "Tex" Hill Wing now located at Stinson Airport in San Antonio. The Wing is dedicated to preserving the legacy of its' namesake, David Lee "Tex" Hill, one of the famous Flying Tigers of WWII. We were extremely honored that Col. Renaud took the time out of his busy schedule to share his passion to restore historic aircraft to working order and bring them back to life.

He invited us to Stinson Airport on October 6th for a flying event where we can see these proud warriors in action!

Note: Did you know that Stinson Municipal Airport is historic in itself, being the second oldest general aviation airport in continuous operation in the U.S.? Visit the Commemorative Air Force's impressive website here:
We are   collecting   candy now for   Morgan's   Wonderland's   annual   Halloween   Party!

Wine Drawing
It was no surprise when Joe Montagna owned the ticket drawn for a bottle of wine. He took home a bottle of white wine. (Why don't I just say "ditto"?)

Bruce Richter donated the wine for September.
