Brenda Jackson introduced today’s speaker, Christa Gregory of the American Heart Association. She heads up the Little Hats Big Hearts program. This program began in 2014 in 1 hospital and gave out 300 hats to families with children diagnosed with congenital heart defects. In this past campaign in 10 hospitals, 3,000 hats will be given.  This campaign wants to raise awareness of congenital heart disease in babies. Here is a picture of the hat with letter enclosed that will go to a mom before they leave the hospital. Money from sponsorships pay for CPR kits for new moms. All babies are now screened for heart disease before they leave the hospital.  The Heart Walk is scheduled for May in New Braunfels and November in San Antonio.  Another campaign, Go Red for Women, has its luncheon Thurs Feb 7 at the Witte Museum. The Heart Walk is in April.  A book will be donated to the Locke Hill Elementary School Library on behalf of our speaker today.

Thank you Christa for being our speaker today and sharing all the good things that the American Heart Association is doing to educate us on being heart healthy! Please come and join us again soon!
