With the ringing of the bell President John Legris opened the meeting and welcomed club members to “The Friendliest Club in District 5840!”  Our guest speaker today was our newest member, Kenneth Black.  Bruce Richter offered a prayer and led us with the pledges.

President Legris announced that Secretary Mary Denton has shared that she will be stepping down from her office. Question: "Is she leaving the club?" Answer: "No!"  She will still be a regular active member.  She wants to spend more time with her husband Pat!  They are planning to travel more. We were all happy that Veronica Ruse has graciously accepted to fill the role as Secretary! According to the club bylaws Veronica's new position must be approved by the board and is part of the agenda at tomorrow's meeting.  Mary and Veronica will be working together during this period of transition.

President Legris continues the tradition of enlightening us with the National Days and This Day in History.
National Days
National Beer Day – Did you know that beer is world’s most widely consumed alcoholic beverage?
National Coffee Cake Day – Secretary Mary’s favorite is crumb cake
National Walking Day – What Mary does after enjoying her crumb cake

Fred’s Funnies
We giggled about Fred's joke about St. Peter at the pearly gates and his interaction with some nefarious characters.

Rotarian Magazine
Bruce Richter found the April edition of Rotary Magazine titled “Rotary’s Railroading Fellowship” interesting.  He shared a slide show and told tales of trips to faraway places with his lovely wife Gloria. None of us were the least surprised the trips seemed to include wine consumption... Thank you, Bruce, for sharing these fond memories with us!

Did you know that part of your Rotary dues pays for your subscription to The Rotarian Magazine?  This great magazine contains stories about how Rotary International and members from around the world are working hard to provide good things such as clean water, assist women and children, and help stamp out polio and other diseases! You may either choose to have it delivered to your home or receive a digital copy monthly!  Please see Secretary Mary for more details or visit www.myrotary.org!

Club Luncheon and Business Program
President John welcomed our guest speaker, Kenneth Black.  Kenneth happens to be our newest club member!  Besides his insurance agency, Kenneth is also a wellness coach and fitness trainer!

His motto:  Eat Well – Train Well – Feel Well

Kenneth's handout detailed the road path to physical fitness success!  Included are the 3 basic steps:

Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR)
Meal Planning – he gave tips for us to enjoy more balanced meals
Workout Design – he detailed a total body workout

“Fitness is supposed to be fun!” – Kenneth Black

He fielded questions from club members: Where do you train? Mobile - he will come to you - or at his gym at LA Fitness. He also discussed intermittent fasting and described Body Mass Index (BMI).

He is available for one-on-one coaching and may be reached at 210-831-9247 and kennethblack00@hotmail.com.

Thank you, Kenneth, for speaking to our club today!  In your honor we will donate a book to the Locke Hill Elementary School Library.

Show Low Raffle
The club was excited to see the return of the Show Low Raffle!  Beginning with a pot of $250, the first ticket drawn was owned by Bil Trodlier.  He did not draw the winning 2 of clubs so he did not win the pot today. However he did win his choice of wines offered and chose the red.  We were glad to see Joe Montagna today on zoom and his ticket was drawn next!  Joe, we will hold your wine at the club meeting room until you are able to pick it up.

Coffee Friday
President John announced that we will resume Coffee Friday after a long hiatus!  He and his lovely wife Chihiro recently enjoyed their visit to Bakery Lorraine at the Medical Center. He says there is indoor and outdoor seating available. He described the menu as “extensive and delicious!”. Meet your Rotary Friends at the bakery this Friday at 9! Their address is 7338 Louis Pasteur Dr Ste 201.

Confessions and Brags
We were happy that Barry Abrams joined us with zoom today!  He shared that he and his lovely wife Jerri just returned from their trip to California to visit family!
Veronica Ruse’s phone rang during the meeting so she paid a fine.
Secretary Mary Denton forgot her Rotary pin so she paid a fine.

President John announced the club board will meet tomorrow with zoom, April 8 at 11.  Several members have presentations from their committees so please try to make it!

Zoomies
Someone in our group coined the phrase “zoomies” – club members who have become quite proficient with attending and conducting meetings on this virtual meeting platform during the coronavirus pandemic.

Zoom Meetings
Zoom meetings will continue to be in person and virtual.  Thank you for your interest and involvement with Oak Hills Rotary Club, "The Friendliest Club in District 5840!"
