President John Legris opened the meeting with a prayer and the pledges. He welcomed guest Ken Black and our esteemed guest speaker Major General Angela Salinas USMC Ret. CEO Girl Scouts South West and her assistant Leticia Martinez.

Zoom Holiday Party!
Thanks to everyone who joined the zoom Holiday Party! Ken Ruiz was his usual entertaining self and the organizer.  We appreciate you, Ken, for your hard work, creativity and the time it takes to pull our activities together.
 
Holiday Cards
Thanks to Allyson Hamlin & Ken Ruiz for initiating the beautiful Rotary Holiday Cards this year!  Each member was honored with a $10 contribution to Rotary International to continue working and helping people around the world with so many essential needs.
 
Fred’s Funnies
A Florida senior citizen drove a car off the dealership floor.  The elderly man observed a Florida State Trooper and the man sped up!  After a heated car chase the trooper managed to get the man to pull over.  The trooper said to the man: “If you can give me a good reason for speeding I’ll let you off easy.”  What do you think the man's response was?
 
Club Luncheon and Business Meeting
Vice President Destiny Mujica introduced our guest speaker Major General Angie Salinas. She is a woman of many accolades and we are very honored to have her speak to our club.  (PLEASE CLICK "Read more" to view the inspiring PSA General Salinas shared with us!)
General Salinas commended us for generously donating to Girl Scouts.  She congratulated for our club being role models to the community. Girl Scouts are still doing incredible things despite the coronavirus restrictions. She spoke about patriotism being taught to girl scouts. Bexar County is the largest county in the GSSWT.Gen
 
General Angie shared these interesting facts about the local Girl Scout council:

Cookies will not be able to be sold in the usual way.
Grubhub is partnering with Girl Scout to deliver the cookies this year.
Can also purchase through the Girl Scouts website. Can have cookies shipped to your friends and loved ones anywhere! 
Girl Scouts teach girls how to become an entrepreneur with the sales of cookies.
Life Skills & Community Service:  Girls participate in community service such as the MLK march, participate in NNO, making masks for health care professionals and GS staff
STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math)
Outdoor experience at Camp Lajita near Utopia- character and confidence builder!
Volunteers are welcomed and are a big part of the programming such as signing up to volunteer in their cookie warehouse.
 
This council will be celebrating 100 years in 2024!
