Club Meeting
The meeting began by President John Legris and with the ringing of the bell by Bruce Richter. Ken Ruiz opened the meeting with a word of prayer and led the club with the pledges.

Club Luncheon and Business Program
Ken Ruiz introduced our guest speaker, Cathy Heshmat.  Cathy is one of Ken's key mentors in business.  She is a former school teacher and the owner of Brit's House. Mom of 3 grandmother of 1. Her mission is to prevent one mother from walking in her shoes. She shared her powerful and emotional story with us.

Destiny Mujica introduced our guest speaker, Kathleen Gately and shared her bio:
Teacher - Humanities at Graduate School of Boerne (English, Latin, Literature, History)
Head Robotics coach and program director - Kendall Educational Alliance
11 years coaching robotics
B.A. from Texas State University in English & Political Science
 
Kathleen thanked the Oak Hills Rotary Club for supporting Kendall Robotics with our financial as well as volunteer support.
This is her 11th year of coaching – last year 9 teams
Qualified 17 times for world championships
FIRST is the platform that they use and it is competitive robotics.

Club Business & Announcements
The Oak Hills Rotary Club Board met following the meeting last week.  Scholarships will be awarded to 2 deserving nursing students in the amount of $2500                Recommendation to support national disaster relief such as the California fires and the hurricane hit areas will be discussed at a later board meeting, possibly November.
 
Raffle Committee Update
President Elect Rick Rhodes announced that the club Collected money for 224 tickets! Just a few tickets remain unsold however they are in the hands of the ones that will follow up.  Rick commended all members who stepped up and sold tickets that they took. President Elect Rick recommends all cash be turned in to Treasurer Fred Timmons' office as soon as possible.  Mini dealership has committed to allowing us to use one of their rooms to broadcast our Gold Raffle this year.  Allyson Hamlin presented the floorplan for the raffle setup. Oct 28 at 6:30 and will be live broadcast on Facebook and zoom.

Next week will be the last regular meeting for our club before the Gold Raffle.
 
Secretary Mary Denton will send the link to all members for the zoom invitation for the raffle.
 
Other Business
Our club supports two interact clubs locally, Clark HS and ISA. Joe Montagna is following up to see how ISA will be handling it this year.
 
Locke Hill Elem Learning Tree volunteer opportunity update by Ken Donoughue. Ken will see what he can find out.
 
Allyson Hamlin talked about Governor Toson’s mini library initiative. The governor's goal is to set up 100 libraries.
 
President Elect Rick Rhodes wants to add to the agenda of the next board meeting discussion about the Nuevo Rosita water project. We are partnering with a California Rotary Club and the Nuevo Rosita Rotary Club for this project. NR club has already begun to build the building that will hold the equipment.
 
Member Chair Ken Ruiz let everyone know that every Friday night at 7:15 pm Mini Dealership on IH 10 West has movie night!  Need to register – sit in a mini, eat popcorn and enjoy a movie!  There are 24 spots!!!!  Ken will provide info.
