Oak Hills Rotary Bulletin Jul 1 2020
Rotary: People of Action!
New Year, New Opportunities!  New Rotary International President!  Meet Holger Knaack, his unusual rise to office and read about his vision for Rotary HERE!

Visit us at our meeting on ZOOM! https://us04web.zoom.us/j/2108469320  Next meeting will be Wednesday July 8 on zoom - we meet informally around 11:30 to fellowship and catch up with each other.  The meeting officially begins at 12:00.  This will be the first club assembly of the year.  We will discuss our goals among other things.  Please try to attend if at all possible.

Rotarians are helping during the COVID-19 crisis!
Some of our club members have been helping during the COVID-19 crisis: Ken Donoughue and Brenda Jackson and we suspect others as well.

If anyone else from our club is assisting the community in any way during the COVID-19 crisis please let me know.  We would like to recognize your service in the community.

First Meeting at Outback
For the first meeting of the Rotary year, some of us felt comfortable to meet at Outback Steakhouse.  Management is abiding by the COVID-19 social distancing restrictions with spacing the tables and chairs well and making hand sanitizer available.  Drinks are served individually. We are able to comfortably meet with 10 club members at this time.  Next week we will meet through zoom as well as future meetings until further notice.  Thank you for your understanding - we want everyone to stay safe and well. This week's meeting was broadcast via zoom as well.  This was the first time for a zoom broadcast while also meeting in person. Thanks to everyone for your participation, cooperation and patience as we struggle through these times.  Just another indication of the greatness of our club in our membership.

Prayer and Pledge
President John Legris opened this, his first meeting as club president, with a word of prayer and the pledges.

President Legris introduced our guests, Past District Governor Stephanie Macchia and Jaden Rhoads who was a guest of Destiny Mujica. Also attending was Destiny's daughter Joclyn.

National Days
President Legris continued the tradition of announcing National Days:
National Postal Worker Day
National U.S. Postage Stamp Day
National Creative Ice Cream Flavors Day

This Day in Texas History
On July 1, 1898, Theodore Roosevelt and his volunteer cavalry, the Rough Riders, stormed Kettle Hill, then joined in the capture of the San Juan Hill complex. Thus they helped to secure a U.S. victory in the Battle of Santiago, the decisive battle of the short-lived Spanish-American War.

Past President Presentation
President Legris presented Past President Rick Tarbell with a plaque in recognition for his service this past year. You led us with humor and a servant's heart.
