Rotarians are helping during the COVID-19 crisis!
Ken Donoughue was not in this weeks' attendance as he continues to help feed during the COVID-19 pandemic in connection with the Pleasanton Rotary Club.  Last week he fed 250 at his site.

Brenda Jackson's professional medical duties are preventing her from attending our regular meetings. She is an essential worker with the COVID 19 crisis.

If anyone else from our club is assisting the community in any way during the COVID-19 crisis please let me know.  We would like to recognize your service in the community.

Prayer and Pledge
President Rick Tarbell opened the meeting and led us with a word of prayer and the pledges.

Missing Club Members
Allyson Hamlin was not able to join us today because of work.

Club Lunch and Business Program
Dr. Matthew Krause, OTR, OTD is our speaker today. Dr. Krause has been a practicing occupational therapist for 25 years with multiple employers as well as private contracts. He currently practice clinically at the Baptist Health System, Morningside Ministries, Select Rehabilitation at Blue Skies of Texas East and West, Behavioral Support and Nursing Services/Bright Spring, and any number of clinics, Home Health Services and private consultations.   He explained the differences between physical therapy and occupational therapy. Physical therapy gets you moving while occupational therapy gets you living. Dr. Krause works with children with developmental delays. For adults he works to get you back to where you were before or adapting being as independent as possible. Dr. Krause discussed what medical personnel use to protect themselves while attending patients. He worries about the public's complacency with the COVID-19 pandemic. He reminds us the importance of hand washing and social distancing. You may reach Dr. Krause at his email address: mychevy57@yahoo.com
Thank you Dr. Krause for speaking to us today! President Rick invited Dr. Krause to join us for lunch when we go back to holding our regular meetings at Outback Steakhouse.

Missing Pins or Badges
We have been spotty about wearing our badges. The fickle finger of fines has flown over our club during this time. It's bound to catch up with us when we return to our regular meetings!

Notice of New Member Proposal First Notice
In accordance with our Club Bylaws, proposed new members must be published for two weeks giving our membership notice.  At its May 5 meeting, the OHRC Board approved the application of Maverick Pascal for membership. Maverick will have the classification of either property insurance or visual artist. Veronica Ruse is his sponsor. If any OHRC member knows why Maverick should not be admitted into OHRC membership, please advise President Rick Tarbell within two weeks of this notice.
Wine Presentation
Our weekly meetings would not be complete without expert commentary from our own President Elect John Legris. Since we are practicing social distancing during COVID-19 restrictions we are not able to have our regular Show Low drawing. President Elect John continues to share with us some of his and his wife Chihiro's favorite wines from their wine cellar. Ken Ruiz attempted to bid on the wine presented but was unsuccessful.  Thank you President Elect John for always providing interesting and entertaining information from the vast world of wine! Who knew that when he joined our club he would be such a resource? We have interesting and talented members here at Oak Hills Rotary Club!

Since Ken Ruiz was unsuccessful in achieving a bidding war on John's wine he thoughtfully brought up auctioning the Umbrella.  No one has owned the umbrella since we last met at Outback Steakhouse.  A rousing bidding war ensued between Joe Montagna and Secretary Mary Denton!  In a bit of friendly rivalry Mary won the umbrella for the month of May with her winning $100 bid. Secretary Mary is a REALTOR with Keller Williams Realty City View.  She will be sharing updates about the local real estate market. When asked, she said that "the San Antonio area is still in a severe housing shortage (meaning available homes for sale) and interest rates are still at historical lows. Now is a good time to sell a home and also to buy a home."
Speakers for the Remainder of May
President Elect John Legris, Chair of the Speaker Committee shared with us the scheduled speakers for May:

May 13: Julius Hunter, MA  Recreation Supervisor with the Frank-Garrett Multi Service Service Center on the near West side of San Antonio. His program provides a full range of programming for youth and adults. He will speak about his program and also about the efforts it has made to help out the community at this time of corona virus. Mr. Hunter was recommended by Destiny Mujica.

May 20:  Pat Whitty, President Elect of the Dominion Rotary Club. pwhitty@mac.com (210) 744-8999. Mr Whitty is currently a Health and Life Transition Coach who focuses on Seniors.

May 27: Karen Ryan of Ransomed Life
No Show Low Pot Today
Due to the COVID-19 restrictions and not being able to meet in person we've had to adapt.  This week we did not have the Show Low Drawing. We hope get back to normal as soon as possible.
