Lunch and Business Program
Vice President John Legris introduced our speaker today, Tom Hansis. Tom is the past president of the Leon Valley Rotary Club. He was invited to come and speak to us today to tell his story about his liver transplant. Rodney Gray was our guest and was Tom's donor.  Rodney is CEO of Wave Healthcare. Emilio Flores was also our guest and is Transplant Physician Liaison from the Transplant Center. Tom reported that during surgery for his gallbladder removal the surgeons made the surprising discovery that he had bile cancer.  Since it was decided that he needed a new liver.  He was then put on the organ transplant waiting list. Rodney Gray volunteered to be Tom's living donor and he was found to be a good candidate. Tom and Rodney were happy to report that the surgery and follow up resulted in success and have aided in Tom's quality of life. They both want us to be aware of the critical need for organ donors. More information about this can be found by clicking this LINK.

Thank you Tom, Rodney and Emilio for coming to our meeting today and sharing your stories of inspiration and hope!

As is our custom we donate a book in their honor to the Locke Hill Elementary School Library.

Vice President John Legris introduced this week's wines: From Sicily Italy, a Red Blend and Simi Sonoma County a Sauvignon Blanc. Mary Denton owned the first ticket drawn and the chance to win the $825 pot. Instead of drawing the 2 of clubs to win, she drew the 4 of hearts!  As a consolation prize, she chose the white wine.  Joe Montagna owned the second ticket and took home the red.

Mary Denton donated the wine for the month of August.

    Umbrella Time
There was no umbrella time this week due to Ken Ruiz' absence. His winning bid for the umbrella goes towards his Paul Harris Fellowship.  He is also fine free as long as he owns the umbrella.

    Getting Started with Square
The OHRC Board approved the proposal for the use of a MagStrip reader that will allow members to use a debit or credit card for making payments. We are hoping that this will make it easier for those who don't normally carry cash.

Currently taking payments for raffle tickets. Until we familiarize ourselves with this new device and the process, for a while at least please continue to bring cash or checks.
    Four Way Test
President Rick Tarbell closed the meeting and led the members with the Four Way Test.

    Don't forget!
"Bring a friend to Rotary. We all need to eat lunch, why not enjoy it with Rotarians and learn something interesting during one of our programs?"
