Club Lunch and Business Program
Larrisa Wilkinson is the Director of Professional Learning and Program Innovation at Pre-K 4 SA. Larrisa and her team are responsible for leading efforts to distinguish the program as a high-quality model for early childhood educational excellence throughout San Antonio and the nation, through city-wide professional development, grants, family engagement and the program's four demonstration sites serving 2,000 four-year olds. Beginning with the vision of former Mayor Julian Castro and what was then named the 'Brainpower Taskforce,' they recommended the development of a program focused on high-quality prekindergarten services for four-year old children. In just a few years since its inception, in 2017 Pre-K 4 SA was honored with the prestigious H-E-B Excellence in Education Award in early childhood education for its social-emotional development curricula in the North and South centers. The purpose of Pre-K 4 SA is to improve San Antonio in one generation by changing the education trajectory of four-year-olds, inspiring students to develop a love of learning and become engaged, 21st century citizens. The program has eight participating school districts and serves 2000 students each year at four Education Centers.  Larrisa shared with us that Volunteer Opportunities are available!  To find out more about Pre-K 4 SA, click HERE

A book will be given to the Locke Hill Elementary School Library in honor of our speaker today.

Fines and Confessions

Roger Thompson shared with us that he recently was in the ER with a health issue. Much to his dismay the doctors released him with no diagnosis. We were glad to see him this week and pray that all goes well.

Brenda Jackson shared good news that oldest son Charles will be returning to the U.S. from Germany. Also, Brenda continues her work with the American Heart Association with the Little Hats Big Hearts campaign. So far 3,000 hats have been received. They will be delivered to hospitals next week.  She will also be active in the Go Red for Women Campaign in February. Thank you, Brenda, for your work in these important campaigns and for serving in the community!

President Fred shared that he will be celebrating his birthday tomorrow.  Happy Birthday!  Wishing you many happy returns. Thank you for serving as our President this year!

Bil Trodlier expressed appreciation for Barry Abrams for being Chair of the Scholarship Committee and for all his hard work. Thank you Barry!

Show Low Raffle
Bruce Richter won the opportunity to draw the 2 of Clubs to win the $825 pot. Hurray Bruce!!!!  He won! He was overheard saying that he was confident that a visit to Total Wine was in order.

Ken Ruiz owned the ticket drawn for a bottle of wine and donated it to our guest speaker.

Gloria Richter is providing the wine this month - thanks Gloria!
Umbrella Time
Ken Ruiz owns the umbrella for January and February.  At first Ken said that he was "speechless" and it was clear that no one believed him.  He said that he joined Oak Hills Rotary Club in 1988 and President Fred was his accountant.  He shared that whenever he is asked how he is doing he always answers: "I'm blessed."  He feels that response has an impact on people's heart and soul.  "Rotary is a blessing," he said.  This month he was diagnosed with epilepsy, a cognitive disorder.  He shared that when he left San Antonio and move to Florida he was leaving "the best Rotary Club" and had no desire to join another Club. As it would happen, he would cross the path of Past District Governor Frank Devlin.  It seemed that there was still work to be done in Rotary for Ken so he joined the Westin Rotary Club in Florida and eventually became President. He says "there is power in wearing the Rotary pin."
