Club Meeting

Club Luncheon and Business Program
Immediate Past President Rick Tarbell introduced our guest speaker, Becca McNitsky, Education Outreach Coordinator with Magdalena House.  She shared some of the statics of the people that they work with. Violence is the Leading cause of injury and death of women of childbearing age. During covid domestic violence calls to SAPD increased by 30%.

Destiny Mujica introduced our guest speaker, Kathleen Gately and shared her bio:
Teacher - Humanities at Graduate School of Boerne (English, Latin, Literature, History)
Head Robotics coach and program director - Kendall Educational Alliance
11 years coaching robotics
B.A. from Texas State University in English & Political Science
 
Kathleen thanked the Oak Hills Rotary Club for supporting Kendall Robotics with our financial as well as volunteer support.
This is her 11th year of coaching – last year 9 teams
Qualified 17 times for world championships
FIRST is the platform that they use and it is competitive robotics.

Club Business & Announcements
President Legris shared a little bit about our virtual coffee Friday. It was well attended and we shared our favorite morning brews. Allyson Hamlin and husband Richard demonstrated their coffee maker that looked like something from a chemistry lab!
Membership chair Ken Ruiz shared some updates about the Gold Raffle. Tickets are still available for sale. Please reserve your tickets with Treasurer Fred Timmons and pick them up
President John talked about the upcoming Virtual District Town Hall Meeting. Rick King will be the guest speaker. Topic: "Who touched you?" Who invited you to Rotary? Reserve your spot for Thursday Sept 17 at 6:30 pm on the district website!
Board meeting tomorrow at 11 am on zoom. Club members are welcome to join the meeting. Non board members are asked to be observers only because President John has a full agenda and wants to cover everything in the time allowed.
 
Confessions & Brags
Bruce Richter's email was hacked earlier this week. Some of the hacked emails were sent to club members.
Immediate Past President Rick Tarbell connects with John Barnes former member from time to time and hopes that he will be able to join us for one of our meetings. Mr. Barnes is with the South Texas Blood Bank.
